Duisdale House Hotel
Driving to Skye, there was one worry on my mind: and that was the hotel. I’d booked it via a voucher from 5pm.co.uk and although it was my first experience with this particular site, I was still a little nervous. I’d visited a nice restaurant before with an Itison voucher and was rather poorly treated.
All of my stress melted away however once I stepped into the lobby of the beautiful Duisdale House Hotel. When we checked in the receptionist, David (the nicest man on the planet) gave us a quick tour of the hotel. He also upgraded us to a four poster room- which made me happy because I’ve always wanted to sleep in a four poster bed.
The Room

Comfy comfy bed... and Jemma's skanky handbag
The four poster bed dominated the room, and although there were a couple of chairs we spent most of our time snuggled under the egyptian cotton sheets watching a bit of trash telly (Alice Cooper’s Celebrity Ghost Stories, anyone?) on the flat screen.
I didn’t get a picture of the bathroom, but it was lovely and spacious and well stocked with goodies. The shower had a massive head so it was quite a disappointment when I stepped underneath to be met with a trickle of water. However, The bath was lovely and deep with an ergonomic slope so that made up for it!
The Lounge

Nice and cosy in the lounge
I was hoping our hotel would have a log fire, but I didn’t get my hopes up. So you can imagine my delight when we saw the roaring fire in the lounge. The lounge was filled with comfy sofas and ways to entertain oneself: magazines, a gorgeous glass chess set, and access to the fully stocked Chart Room bar. We made the most of this on Saturday night after returning from dinner: with a glass of whisky for him, and a G&T for me of course!
The Food
Duisdale House Hotel have a fabulous fine dining restaurant complete with two AA rosettes. Obviously this experience is deserving of its own post, but included in the room price is a Scottish breakfast. This wasn’t your plain old buffet, but a two course extravaganza. I strategised on morning one and started with fruit salad, following with kippers. James had porridge followed by haddock. We didn’t need any lunch!

The Location

View from our bedroom window
Happily, the Duisdale House Hotel isn’t too far from the Skye Bridge and is easy enough to find in the dark. The hotel is set up on a hill, and overlooks the sound of Sleat (separating the Isle of Skye from the Scottish mainland). The hotel itself is set in some gorgeous grounds which guests can stroll in, although it was raining very heavily during our day in Skye so we didn’t get much of a chance to explore the woods.
The Service
What really stood out for me was the great level of service we got. All the staff members went out of their way to be friendly to us: asking us if we had any plans, or how we got on during the day. They were more than accommodating, with David (the lovely receptionist) adding more logs to the fire on Saturday night despite just James and myself being the only ones in the lounge.
Basically Duisdale Hotel is a wonderful place to stay, and the perfect base for exploring the Isle of Skye.

Oh My goodness. I’d love to review a place like that.
I know I usually talk about food but the hotel was so so lovely that I just had to write about it
It was a wee bit pricy but I thought it was well worth it. Already putting my spare pennies in the piggy bank for my next visit, haha
