I love quesadillas. I love them the way that most girls love cupcakes. I love them the way that boys love kebabs (once the salad’s been picked off). Everyone goes on about burritos, but they just don’t have the edge on quesadillas. Maybe I like them because they’re toasted (I like paninis better than regular sandwiches) or maybe it’s the spicy marinaded meat and ooey gooey cheese and the delicate sour cream and spicy tomatoey salsa… (I’ll stop there, I’m getting dangerously close to a foodgasm).
I can’t be the only quesadilla fiend in town, so I’ve decided to make it my quest to find the best quesadilla in Edinburgh.
Quesadillas will be scored on the following factors;
Cheese: is it good quality? is it melted all the way through? Too much, too little?
Toastedness: Is it too hard? Too soft? Or juuuust right?
Meat: Is it marinated to perfection? Tender and juicy, or overcooked and gristly?
Extras: What am I getting; salsa, guac, sour cream? Is the sour cream the nice good quality stuff or is it that manky silky stuff?
General yumminess: After eating the quesadilla, do I immediately want another one? Or do I want to spend an hour or two praying to the porcelain god?
I’m going to rate and review a bunch of places. It will probably take a while because I’m not made of money and my guts aren’t made of iron, but once I’m done I’ll put them in order from best to worst. Every time I write a review I’ll link to it from this page for a more detailed description of why it’s so good or bad.
Of course it’s all very subjective, my tastes aren’t the be all and end all so feel free to let me know if you think I’m wrong.

Pancho Villas :: 1.5/10
+ Good quality sour cream and a tasty wee side salad
- Everything else
Made by my own fair hand :: 7/10
+ Marinated chicken was very tasty and made awesome leftovers for lunch next day
- We had the wrong kind of cheese and I’m still not convinced by wholemeal wraps
Tex Mex II ::
+ Chargrill flavour, friendly service, tasty sides
- Not enough cheese, bland chicken, personally didn’t like the sauce distribution
If there’s somewhere in town that you think will blow my quesadilla lovin’ mind, please contact me and let me know about it.
